First a short note: a giant storm raced through the area on Friday. My company closed early and sent us all home. Norwood was not hard hit, although there was some damage from heavy winds The worst was in Indiana and Kentucky. Please keep these people in your thoughts.
The past couple of weeks, I’ve been giving you all a fairly brief overview of what’s in Norwood. Most of it has been pretty sparse; I don’t spend enough time in Norwood, apparently. This south side tour will truly highlight my lack of knowledge of Norwood.
I divide the south side in two: near Xavier and near Rookwood. The Xavier side is fairly tired, with a large outdoor shopping mall that is rapidly losing tenants. Xavier continues to expand, however, which will be nice, as long as it’s not all parking.
Near Rookwood probably has the nicest houses in Norwood: big and old and probably full of all kinds of yummy period details, like crown molding. As long as no one has updated the house and torn it out. For shame! For shame! Also, nice shopping!
Despite all this, I think the south side has the best options for a date night. Gordo’s and Betta’s are both on the south side on Montgomery and while I haven’t personally eaten there (yet!), they have been recommended. Also, Stone Lanes is on the south side. I see a dinner out, then a trip to the bowling alley or catching a game at Xavier.
Also, this is a better place to get a new vehicle: there’s the Northland Volkswagon dealership and the Metro Scooter store.
Next week: I’m so excited! I’ll be posting nearly every day of the week with a series on Norwood’s empty spaces! Fires! Eminent domain! Urban renewal!
