Norwood: City of Roses

Yes, City of Roses. I’d like to suggest that as the tag for Norwood. St. Bernard can be the City of Big Dogs, Wyoming can be the City of the Education, Blue Ash can be the City of Industry, and Montgomery can be the City Where Everyone Who Works in Blue Ash Sleeps.

Last week, I talked about my roses. This week, it’s other folks’ turn. Shrub and climbing roses do well all over the Cincinnati area, but I think they look extra special in Norwood. They are such charming yet sophisticated flowers, they really add a touch of beauty to the city.

Here are a number to enjoy.

Roses in Norwood

20120503-090733.jpg

When I bought my house here in Norwood, I inherited two roses.

“Uh, oh,” I thought. “Roses are difficult.” But they weren’t difficult at all.

This one is a rambling rose. It spreads out, shooting up canes all over the place. Far from being difficult, it’s nearly invasive. Actually, if it wasn’t a rose, it would be invasive. It blooms just once a year, right now, when all the roses start blooming. I wish it would bloom more or longer, because this is simply the most fragrant rose ever.

The other rose is a climbing rose, a pretty red flower, but nowhere near as fragrant. I’ve since added 7 more rose bushes to the yard.

And I’ve noticed how many roses are in Norwood. Check back! I’ll have pictures up of roses in bloom around the Wood, once the weather cooperates.

Norwood in Bloom!

Spring has sprung here in the Wood (and in the rest of Cincinnati). Unseasonably warm temperatures have set everything blooming. Here are some pictures to keep you in the springtime mood!

Yard in bloom

This yard always looks glorious in the spring.

This yard is also a great example of small space landscaping.
