Awhile ago, I posted that I thought Norwood was a good candidate for the real life location of the Simpsons. It’s one of the most popular posts so far, thanks to the Dead Homer Society. Unfortunately, it turns out I wasn’t even close. Matt Groenig finally fessed up to the real life inspiration for Springfield, and it’s in Oregon.
In retrospect, Norwood is missing a few key items:
- No lighthouse and no old sea captain. I guess these would be more likely in Oregon than in Ohio, but we do have Lake Erie. Although Norwood is in southern Ohio.
- No comic book store. There are some comic book stores nearby, really just up the street in Pleasant Ridge, but not in Norwood proper.
- No nuclear power plant. Kind of a biggie. Those are also up north.
Oh, well. Norwood still has plenty in common with Springfield, mostly its blue collar soul.
